We all hear the Vegans out their saying that eating meat is wrong and that it’s bad for our bodies (among other things). Now whether or not you believe that eating meat is wrong is personal preference. It comes down your own opinions. I don’t believe that telling an adult person what they should eat and what they should not eat is anyone’s responsibility and/or right. We all have the right to decide what we choose to put into our bodies. Now you can provide suggestions or express your opinion, but don’t try to force anything down someones throat (pun intended).
That being said, I think that diets have become a bit twisted to say the least. Growing up I was always given the impression that a meat should be the primary dish on your plate and that you should have meat with every meal otherwise it is not considered to be a full meal. Honestly, I don’t know where this practice came from and I think its misguided. I anticipate that this may be a contributing factor to the obesity epidemic.
Fun Fact did you know that the average person eats approximately 27 chickens per a year (honestly I think I just gagged a bit)
I propose that in this new year we shake things up a bit! Make plants the primary dish on our plate. Let vegetables be a side dish no longer!!! It’s time to embrace all the wonderful fruits and vegetables out there. To be honest, I rather a good vegetable dish over a meat dish any day. Half the time I don’t even eat turkey at Thanksgiving. I always tend to fill up off of cabbage, collard greens, sweet potato pie, and mac and cheese (not plant based I know). At the end of the day, I am in the camp that believes plants should be the star of the show in our daily diets. I’m not saying you shouldn’t eat meat (I definitely throw bacon in my cabbage), I’m just saying the fruits and vegetables should make up the bulk of our meals.
I challenge you to try loading on the fruits/vegetables and make that piece of meat the side piece! #byefelicia #teamplantbaseddiet
